Windows 8 fallout, Collapse of PC sales, Tech industry slump

More bad news about Windows 8 --

Windows 8 banned by world’s top benchmarking and overclocking site | ExtremeTech: "Moving forward, HWBot simply says that it’s “impossible to verify the veracity of a system performance” under Windows 8, and thus benchmarks performed under Windows 8 will no longer be accepted. The blog post also says that all previous Windows 8-based records will be disqualified, though some comments from the moderator suggest that they’re still deciding if this is the best course of action."

As of early August, the S&P 500 was up 19.68%, but tech stocks in the index were up only 11.1%, one of the lowest-performing categories."

Apple iPad market share plummets in China as domestic vendors grow | PCWorld: "One vendor that didn’t fare as well in the market was Microsoft, which is selling both its Surface RT and Surface Pro tablets in the country. The company had less than 1 percent market share from 37,000 units shipped. Most of the units sold were of its Surface RT product, Chang said. “The Surface Pro has been too expensive . . ."

Microsoft merges Skype with Outlook in several countries | Microsoft - CNET News: "Microsoft has integrated its two biggest communications services: Skype and Outlook. The tech giant announced Monday that Skype is now available for all Outlook customers in the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Canada, and Brazil. What this means is that people can use the video calling and messaging service directly from their e-mail. Microsoft first announced it would begin rolling out this feature in April . . . Google also gives users the ability to make voice calls and message people through their Gmail accounts. And besides e-mail, the Google Voice feature lets users place calls from Google Hangouts, Google+, and the Chrome extension, holding conversations with up to 10 people at a time."
