Samsung's Tizen Smartphone: Dead On Arrival? - InformationWeek: "...Samsung was scheduled to launch its first Tizen smartphone in Japan back in January. Facebook, Google vying for growth as Alibaba IPO looms: "...While Google's 22% top-line growth for the June quarter shows how healthy its business is 10 years after it went public, Facebook is gobbling up digital ad money -- Google's core market -- a lot faster. Facebook's advertising revenue shot up 67% year-over-year, lifting total top-line growth to 61%, as mobile advertising now comprises nearly two-thirds of the social network's sales. Meanwhile, analysts estimate Google gets somewhere between a quarter and a third of its revenue from mobile. Yet the No. 1 social media company is still just a fraction of the size of the No. 1 Internet search company, as measured by revenue and market cap. BlackBerry Z10 greeted with caution - who will take and hold third position?

While Google's Android and Apple's iOS appear to have first and second positions for the foreseeable future in the mobile OS wars, the interesting action is for the number 3 spot--BlackBerry, Windows, Tizen, Firefox, Ubuntu, or ???

BlackBerry Z10 greeted with caution; stock drops 8%: "Despite its high-profile launch in New York and a TV advertising blitz during March Madness for the company's new smartphone, BlackBerry's shares tumbled 8%, to $14.91, Friday. The dip came amid some reports of lackluster consumer reaction at retail stores to the new phone. Think having physical buttons on your smartphone isn't a big deal? Samsung-Tizen vs Google-Android and Apple-iOS

Forget about BlackBerry and Microsoft Windows Phone--globally (China, India, Asia, Africa), the new third smartphone OS will soon be Samsung-Intel's Tizen OS--

Tizen 2.0 SDK and source code released - Crave - Mobile Phones - CNET Asia: "If the name Tizen doesn't ring a bell, it may be time to get acquainted. Basically, Tizen is a Linux-based open-source software platform that is designed for smartphones, tablets, smart TVs and in-car systems. Led by Intel and Samsung in a "technical steering group", Tizen emerged from the dusty ashes of Nokia's MeeGo. It is hoped to be Samsung's hedge against Google's Android, and to compete against iOS as well. . . ."

Korean lawmaker who exposed Samsung corruption forced from office | The Verge: " . . . The conversations in question are part of what is known as the Samsung X-File, a trove of tapes illegally recorded by the government's intelligence service during the 1990s. The files include conversations between Samsung chairman Lee Kun-hee and his brother in law, and reveal bribes allegedly paid by the conglomerate to prosecutors, politicians, and presidential candidates. But investigations into the X-File centered around the illegal nature of their recording and release — only Roh and MBC journalist Lee Sang-ho were indicted for their role in publishing the wiretaps, and none of the resulting evidence was admissible in prosecution. Lee was handed a suspended prison sentence in 2011 on the grounds that his reporting of private conversations was not in the public interest. However, Joongang Daily newspaper publisher Hong Seok-hyun was forced to resign as US ambassador over his implication in lobbying presidential candidates with Samsung bribes, as was Vice Justice Minister Kim Sang-hee. . . . "
